Illusion of Ending

  • Danielle Soucy Mills’ novel Illusion of an Ending is a gripping story about a young man who is gone too soon, a grieving mother, and a young girl with extraordinary abilities; three people who suddenly find themselves connected to each other. Written from various characters' perspectives, it is like getting into the skin of the main protagonists. I think one of the biggest achievements of this book is that it gives us a picture of life after death that makes dying easier to accept. Highly recommended!

  • Illusion of an Ending is not your average novel. It is enthralling, well-written, and a delight to read. The setting revolves around how life in the real world intertwines with life continuing in that mysterious state of being that we call the afterlife. In the telling of this story, I recognize the poignant, heart-bruised, delicate state that we all enter when loved ones are taken from us before their time. I first experienced this when my firstborn son, Jeremy, almost 8 years old, was killed in a freak accident and died in my arms. Oh, the ineffable misery of it all. My life was never the same. It filled with an aching longing to know where my son had gone. Was he okay? Was he happy? Would I ever see him again? Would he even recognize me? These questions framed a defining moment in my life, sparking a lifelong quest to know and to understand the afterlife through firsthand experience. Illusion of an Ending goes a long way towards illustrating my own understanding of the afterlife. Our lost loved ones are right here with us, like they are standing just on the other side of a very thin curtain. Sometimes we catch glimpses of them. And if we are open-minded enough, sometimes we can connect.
